I think you could have ligament injuries before, e.g MCL
newly recovered ligament is not as tight, couldn't hold your knee as strong as before. also without running/exercise for months the thigh muscle groups would become weak. both of them contribute the feeling of "no strength"
what it simply means is you knee still need some time, don't push or you'll be injured again
you may need to strengthen the thigh muscles first, do slow runnings, and gradually increase it to what it was
be patient
